Any hunter knows to watch around the edges of the forests for movements at dawn and dusk. The wildlife roaming the edge of the woods will do their best to stay in the shadows and our big old buck is no exception. Chuck Black is one of the finest wildlife and landscape artists on the planet. To have a complete art lesson from him is a rare treat.
It was toward the end of summer when I first started painting in 2018. I did many of my fifty paintings in that first year. I always look for challenges to learn more skills and techniques. Chuck Black offers these as his style is quite unique. This is one such complex composition. First, it was a multi-layered painting with special light effects. Second, there are many details and ‘new-to-me” techniques. In the end, I feel learned as much about painting shadows and light in this one as in all of my other pieces combined.
