I chose to paint this Angel Anderson-inspired piece as a tribute to the women waiting for war veterans. People associate the poppy with veterans in many countries. We often forget that the loved ones are veterans also. I imagined this woman longing to see someone who was miles away from home. She’s wondering if she will ever see them again. As a young woman, I faced that wait and it wasn’t easy. Angela Anderson made painting my first human form a joy. Her attention to every fold of the fabric resulted in a delicate frill to the subject’s dress. This was my most cherished painting for a very long time.
